Moving to a new home may be very exciting, but the first couple of weeks will be a little weird and uncomfortable for sure. It will take some time for you to start feel at home in the new place, that is inevitable. Still, you can do some things to speed up the process. Here are a few tips for you on how to get settled and feel more at ease despite the plenty of removal boxes you will have to deal with.
1. First thing’s first - kids' rooms
If your kids have a collection of items that they love very much, make sure that they will be moved into your new home safe and sound. To prevent your children from focusing on the discomforting and unknown atmosphere, let them arrange their rooms by themselves. A whole day of unpacking and putting their favourite collections in order will give them a sense of comfort and make them forget that they’ve just moved into a new place. Everyone feels at home when surrounded by their beloved items and souvenirs.
2. Get snug
The comfort of your bedroom is what can really help you feel settled. One of the first things to do after the removal is to take out your clean and cosy bedding. Nothing can be more comforting and relaxing than your old and familiar sheets, pillows and duvets. Getting a long and nice sleep in your precious bed will surely ease the stress of the relocation. Maybe just a night will not be enough for you and your entire family to “switch” between houses, but things will get better with every day that passes.
3. Keep your normal routine
If you or some of your family members is used to drop their personal possessions in the same space, you can easily transfer this space into the house you just moved into. In case you have used a box or some bins for your wallets and keys, get them with you and use them in the new place. Use the same hooks to hang bags, scarves, coats, etc. They will work very well for you to quickly get homey and will not change your routine.
4. Ensure there are well-known sounds and views
That aged cuckoo clock that has been singing every half an hour for years in your previous home may do a great job in creating a more domestic ambience. Тhe familiar sound of a clock or the view of a piece of art with high sentimental value will truly make you feel at home. Bring your memories through the front door of your new place by installing your well known valuable works of art.
5. Cook something aromatic
Yes, the moving day was probably long and exhausting, but a tasty dinner and a bottle of your favourite wine may be just what you and your family need to get comfortable on your new address. A heated kitchen filled with nice smells will surely summon your most beloved people and help them forget about the physical and emotional luggage they will have to handle in the next several weeks.
