Sunday, June 15th is the day to honor fathers. We honor the father who sired us, the father of our children, and other relatives and friends who are also fathers. A perfect day for Dad is being king of the castle, which is what my dad would have liked, with his adoring family doting on him, and possibly his dog at his feet. There really is no place like home on Father’s day.
Speaking of the castle and home! The first half of 2014 has turned out to be sporadic at best. From January to March there was high market activity in many segments. There were various hot spots with lots of activity and sales, in most segments. Many of my clients have benefited dramatically through this market. I am happy to meet with you to discuss your goals so we could better design the best strategy for maximum gain.
It took three presidents of the U.S.A. to make the Holiday official. President Calvin Coolidge merely urged Americans to recognize a special day for fathers in 1924. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson temporarily declared the third Sunday in June Father’s Day the day. But it wasn’t until 1972 when President Richard M. Nixon made the Holiday official.
And for the last 40 years we have been wracking our brains to find the perfect Father’s Day gift. We gave ties, cooking gadgets, sporting gear and clothes. But, what do you think, in the 21st century, men REALLY want if they had a choice? A recent survey came up with seven answers. Unfortunately, this being a family newsletter, the first three are unmentionable. Not surprisingly the 4th answer is booze. But the last 3 answers are what warm our little hearts.
Home and hearth is where Dad’s heart is. He adores handmade crafts from his children (anything they can give him that says he is “the greatest Dad.”) and spending the day with his kids. So stop looking in the mall or shopping online. Just plump up the cushions inhis easy chair or get the hammock ready; fire up the grill;give Dad a drink and allow him his day…at home.
Happy Father’s Day!
